This one year certificate program is eligible for Second Career Funding. An Ontario Government initiative that provides up to $28,000 for tuition and living expenses.
The Mechanical Techniques - Plumbing program will provide you with a variety of trade-specific skills, enabling you to install, maintain and repair piping systems in residential, commercial and industrial settings.
Small class sizes and ideal shop facilities at Commerce Court will enhance the learning experience. Theoretical and practical instruction is provided to interpret blueprints, install valves and fittings, join and secure pipe sections, and test pipe systems for leaks according to project specifications. Students can expect to develop competencies in soldering, hydraulics, and piping for sewer systems, heating systems, and hot water systems. The program objectives have been designed to reflect the outcomes of the basic level Plumbing Apprenticeship program.
Graduates will find employment with independent contractors, building maintenance operations, wholesale supply houses, and large industrial firms. Plumbers often work in the construction industry, laying new pipe for buildings or doing extensive renovations to large buildings. Residential plumbers install and repair plumbing fixtures such as bathtubs, showers, sinks, toilets, and appliances.
Second Career was launched in June 2008 to help laid-off Ontarians identify and train for new careers in growing sectors. Read More>

Technological advances in plumbing are creating a need for plumbers with computer literacy as they begin to use computers in drawing, estimating and cost reporting. New technologies are also affecting gas and water piping and the expanding use of integrated plumbing systems in home construction.
The number of plumbers has increased at a moderate rate over the last 10 years. There is predicted to be long-term growth in employment for this trade.
