Start an exciting and diverse career by enrolling in the Motive Power Technician program. This accelerated two-year diploma program is perfect for students interested in a career in any one of five motive power technician fields, including Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, Automotive Service Technician, Truck and Coach Technician, Farm Equipment Technician, and Forklift Technician.

This program covers a variety of subjects including:

  • Applied work practices and procedures
  • Engine mechanical
  • Fuel systems
  • Electrical/electronics
  • Climate control
  • Hydraulics
  • Power trains
  • Welding
  • Steering suspension and brakes

You will have the opportunity to perform actual service procedures on a wide variety of components found in the power train of heavy vehicles. You will learn to install and set up clutches and tear down and assess the condition of manual transmissions.

Procedures for servicing hydraulic and mechanical systems of torque converters and automatic transmissions are covered, as well as a thorough coverage of differential, final drives and other components found in the power train.

During the program you will be given the opportunity to service passenger vehicles and a number of larger vehicles such as Freightliner, International, Case, John Deere and many others.

Graduates from this program may receive, at the discretion of the employer, advanced standing in their apprenticeships, based on their on-the-job performance.

 
Admission Requirements


Ontario Secondary School Diploma at or above the general level or its equivalent. Grade 12 English or equivalent is required.

Mature Students:
Applicants aged 19 or older without an OSSD will be considered on the basis of the results of the College’s Mature Student Test.

Graduates of the new Ontario Secondary School Curriculum:
Ontario Secondary School Diploma with courses from the College (C), University (U), University/College (M), or Open (O) preparation levels.

Required Courses:
Grade 12 Compulsory English (ENG 4C or ENG 4U).

Program Line
Auto Body and Collision Damage Repair Apprentice Program!

Canadore is pleased to offer an Auto Body and Collision Damage Repair Apprentice Program to individuals employed in the auto body repair industry. All levels of in-school training are offered in eight-week blocks starting in September of each year. Students are provided with all of the required theory and extensive shop practice in such areas as shop safety, body and frame repair, refinishing and applied mechanical systems. Students must be enrolled as an apprentice in order to qualify for this program and should contact their local training consultant with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities for more information.
