Information Technology Technician

There is a high demand for skilled workers in the information technology fields, where the opportunities and rewards are becoming more exciting all the time. Now you can obtain provincial certification in the information technology field through apprenticeship, a combination of hands-on training provided by an employer and in-school training provided by Canadore College. In addition, the inclusion of the Information Technology Technician (ITT) programs as part of the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) means that you can work toward the completion of your apprenticeship training while you are still attending secondary school.

ITT’s online courses include a unique blend of components - the Internet, The Learning Manager (TLM), and CD-ROM courseware. TLM is the software system used by Canadore College to manage online learning, and allows students access to courses of study, unit outlines, study guides, projects, tests, final exams and communication with fellow students. In addition, it marks online tests and provides you with immediate feedback, tracks your progress, and provides performance reports to facilitators. The program consists of two segments of in-school curriculum - the core, which is common to both programs, plus a specialization component in either Hardware or Network. Intensive on-the-job training occurs concurrently.

Skilled workers in the Information Technology industry are in high demand all over North America and globally. Depending on the program stream you follow, you can expect to find employment at an information technology help desk as a network technician or as a hardware technician. The entire program is available online.
