Cook Apprenticeship
Cook Apprenticeship

Earn as you learn in the Cook Apprenticeship program. Growth in the hospitality industry has caused an immediate shortage of professionally trained cooks and chefs. To respond to this need, Canadore is delivering the in-school portion of the Cook Apprenticeship program.

Apprenticeship is a very old and trusted method of training used in Canada and in many other countries around the world. It combines on-the-job training, under the supervision of a highly qualified employer, with in-school training, typically delivered by a community college. Apprenticeship training allows the student to gain theoretical knowledge and job experience at the same time. The apprenticeship program will work well for those students who would like a more direct entry into the culinary field than a full-time postsecondary program provides.

The $2.5 million Hospitality and Tourism Centre provides the apprentices with access to state-of-the-art facilities. It includes a complete experimental kitchen with eight self-sufficient individual stations as well as an expanded production kitchen to complement the dining room facility. State-of-the- art energy efficient units allow the students to work with gas, electric, and induction cooking.

Applicants to this program must possess an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or its equivalent. Students who successfully complete the in-school portion of the apprenticeship program may be eligible to receive advanced standing in the postsecondary programs should they decide to pursue further educational opportunities.
