Canadore Students Win at Skills Competition

Canadore College Aviation students won gold and silver at the Ontario Technological Skills Competition held in Waterloo at the RIM Centre.

The Skills Canada – Ontario competition, held from May 4 to 5, attracted over 1,500 competitors and 20,000 visitors from across the province. There were over 50 contests in the skilled trades and technologies categories in which elementary, secondary and postsecondary level students tested their skills and abilities against industry standards.

Two Canadore Aviation Maintenance students competed in the Aviation competition against students from a number of Ontario colleges. The contest was designed to assess the participant’s aviation maintenance skills.

John Bolan was awarded the gold medal and Ryan London received the silver medal. John was invited to join Team Ontario at the Canadian Skills Competition in Charlottetown, P.E.I on May 20 to 23.

These contests allow participants to showcase their skills, talent and knowledge while providing many networking opportunities with partners from industry, labour, government and education.

Canadore was well-represented and had a strong presence at the competitions. Representatives from Welding, Information Technology, and Electrical Techniques programs along Canadore Liaison Officers participated in competitions with informative, interactive displays and demonstrations.
