Canadore’s new Rural Recreation program is now accepting student applications for Fall 2011.
This week, the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities formally approved the certificate program. Students have the choice of earning their credential in a traditional in-class setting, or via internet and distance education.
This flexible one-year program is being offered in class or through online and correspondence delivery, making it more accessible to people in remote areas. This program was proposed to address the increasing need for trained professionals to plan, organize, and supervise community-based recreation activities and programs in rural and remote areas. Students will graduate with entry-level skills to manage recreation facilities and deliver recreation and leisure services that best serve the needs of people residing in smaller communities. “This program will help to prepare students for the unique challenges they will face working in a rural setting. There are a number of career options including recreation, and fitness program supervisors and consultants. Program graduates will also have the option to transfer into any of the three Recreation and Leisure diploma programs at Canadore and receive a diploma in as little as one year,” said Himmelman
The College is dedicated to being proactive and responsive to changing market demands, student and employer needs and to creating relevant programming that will provide its graduates with highly-employable skills. Canadore boasts the highest graduation rate of the 24 publicly-funded colleges in Ontario.
Rural Recreation is the third new program being offered for Fall 2011.
