Canadore Students Win Provincial Culinary Contest
Canadore College students collaborated across programs to create a winning entry for the Make it With Mushrooms Student Chef Challenge 2009.
Culinary Management students Ryan Stencill and Isaac Bonfield, and Broadcasting - Television and Video Production students Matthew Fraboni and Jeff Chattaway, were announced as the first place winners on November 30.
Community Colleges from all across Ontario were invited to participate in the third annual Make it With Mushrooms Student Chef Challenge hosted by Mushrooms Canada.
The Television students prepared a video of the Culinary students creating their original winning mushroom dish, Fresh Canadian Mushroom Cannelloni in a Goat Cheese Tarragon Cream Sauce. The two Culinary students share a first prize of $1500 and the Television students will share $600. The Culinary Arts program will receive a grant of $1500 for use by the program.
Each team of student chefs submitted one main course recipe video featuring fresh Ontario mushrooms. Submissions were judged on the basis of presentation, taste, simplicity, consistency, originality, nutrition, story and video production.
Mushrooms Canada is a voluntary, non-profit organization whose members are dedicated to the production and marketing of fresh mushrooms in Canada.
