Marriott Recruits Canadore Hospitality Students
Executives from the Marriott hotel chain were at Canadore College on November 8 interviewing Hospitality students for a variety of internship positions.
David Green, Assistant General Manager and Charlie O’Daniel, Restaurant Manager of Griffin Gate Marriott Resort and Spa in Lexington, Kentucky conducted 42 interviews last week with students from Canadore’s Hospitality programs. Approximately 15 to 25 students will be selected to begin their summer placement May 1.
Each year Marriott visits Canadore and has been doing so for the past 15 years as part of a unique partnership between the College and the hotel. Griffin Gate Marriott recruits students from U.S. colleges and universities, but in Canada they look to Canadore College for highly skilled interns.
David Green said that Canadore is the first choice in Canada because of the quality training students receive and the College’s specialized curriculum.
“We are looking for students to insert themselves into the business. We are looking for future leaders for Marriott,” said Green.
The bulk of Marriott’s interns come from Canadore and as a result many graduates now work within the organization in management positions.
