Ontario is investing $18 million in the new Learning Library at Canadore College and Nipissing University, Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities, John Milloy and Minister of Revenue, Monique Smith announced today.
The Learning Library, to be shared by students of Canadore College and Nipissing University, will feature state-of-the-art technology to better prepare students for the future. The Ontario government will invest $18 million in this joint venture project. The Library is another example of the unique partnership between the two institutions.
“Our government knows that it is today’s students who will build Ontario’s future economy, and that economy will be increasingly knowledge-based,” said Milloy. “Our investment in this modern resource centre is ensuring that students from the North Bay area are prepared for success in the future while we create new jobs today.”
“This is a fabulous example of the partnership between Canadore and Nipissing,” said Smith, MPP for Nipissing. “By expanding access to modern learning resources in North Bay, we are taking a major step to improving the long-term quality of postsecondary education in Northern Ontario and building on the extraordinary success of Canadore and Nipissing, while providing jobs in the short-term.”
The funding is part of the $1.4 billion investment in strategic infrastructure announced in the Fall Economic Statement which is designed to make Ontario’s economy more competitive and stimulate job creation and growth across the province.
The investment in strategic infrastructure also included funding for campus renewal projects. Canadore College will receive almost $1.1 million to improve energy efficiency, campus safety and carry out a variety of infrastructure renewal projects.
“Minister Milloy’s announcement today demonstrates tremendous support for Canadore College from the McGuinty Government,” said Canadore President Barbara Taylor. “The Learning Library will be at the heart of the outstanding education experience Canadore College provides for our students, faculty, staff and our community partners. It will truly enable us to lead in student success.”
