Congratulations Canadore Graduates!
Canadore is holding its Convocation Ceremonies for the Schools of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts, Recreation and Leisure Services, and for its Preparatory Programs on May 27.
Guest speaker Tom Hedican, Professional Goaltending Consultant and Founder of the Province-Wide Coach4Food Program, will be speaking to over 275 graduates.
Tom Hedican, world-renowned goaltending consultant and fundraising program founder, graduated from Canadore’s Print Journalism program in 1984. Tom was quickly snatched up in the ranks of The London Free Press where he worked in the sports, news features and entertainment departments. He was promoted to editor of their real estate magazine before becoming the youngest-ever senior editor at the newspaper at the age of 28. However, his passion for hockey called for him to retire from journalism. He has been assistant coach to the North Bay Centennials and coach to the London Knights, both a part of the Ontario Hockey League. Tom has extensive experience consulting European professional hockey, and regularly travels between Switzerland, Germany and Denmark. He founded the Coach4Food Program in North Bay six years ago; a fundraiser for the local food bank where he actively trades his coaching skills to regional hockey teams at Christmas time in return for non-perishable food items. The program’s overwhelming success is the local food bank’s largest fundraiser, and its model is being expanded into other communities through a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
“Many college graduates become involved in their communities and Tom Hedican is a shining example of that spirit,” said George Burton, President of Canadore College. “Mr. Hedican has successfully been able to turn his passion for hockey and his love of community into a fundraising phenomenon making a difference in the lives of thousands of Ontarians. Canadore is pleased to be granting Tom Hedican with an honourary diploma for the drive, leadership and personal time he has devoted to deserving communities across the province and around the world.”
Canadore is very proud of all its graduates for their accomplishments and for achieving their education goals. Each year, the College graduates approximately 1,000 students. Canadore has conferred over 36,000 alumni since its doors opened.
The ceremonies are being held at the College Drive Campus (100 College Drive) on May 27 at 10 a.m.
Canadore College provides access to over 65 full-time quality programs, driven and supported by outstanding faculty and student services and boasts the highest graduation rate amongst the 24 public colleges in Ontario.
