Canadore Hosts Chinese Professors
Next week, a group of Chinese professors is visiting Canadore College and North Bay to observe and learn about leadership and Canadian teaching styles.
Twenty-seven professors arrive on Monday from Xuzhou, China, and will call the City home for the next three weeks as they learn in class from Canadore administration, faculty and staff.
The main purpose of their visit is to learn how to become leaders in postsecondary education. They will learn how to teach, manage and provide support services according to the North American teaching model.
While at Canadore, there will be a particular focus on our Aviation, Culinary, as well as Trades and Technology programs. Online teaching and student-focused transitioning techniques will be main components of their training.
During their stay in North Bay they will have a chance to see what North Bay has to offer while taking in various tourist attractions, cultural events and scenic landscapes such as a cruise on the Chief Commanda. They will also partake in industry tours, visits with City officials, and vocational workshops.
“This is a great opportunity to showcase our College and our City to a new international audience,” said Shawn Chorney, Vice President of Enrolment Management, Student Services and Recruitment. “The professors from the faculty training camp will leave our country with an experience that is truly Canadian and will bring back essential knowledge and tools to their classrooms as they prepare their students for the transition to learning outside of their own borders.”
Canadore welcomes students from all over the world including China, India, Malaysia, and Africa.
Canadore provides access to over 65 full-time quality programs, has outstanding faculty and student services and boasts the highest graduation rate amongst the 24 public colleges in Ontario.
