Canadore College welcomed some of North Bay’s top employers to the annual Co-op Employer Appreciation Luncheon last week. Canadore College’s School of Business recognized co-op employer partnerships and announced the 2008 Co-op Student of the Year award winners.
The luncheon, which was held on October 9 in the Canadore Room, celebrated the regional and provincial corporate partnerships and student accomplishments from the Business and Accounting Co-op programs.
Partners present at the luncheon included JS Redpath, Atlas Copco, Cementation Canada Inc., Canadian Mental Health Association, the Ministry of Transportation, Nipissing University, WipWare, Staples Business Depot, and PCL Constructors.
The Co-op Student of the Year award recognized a wide variety of Canadore Business student achievements such as job performance, academic performance and responsibility, and particular contributions to their employer, to co-operative education, and the community at large.
This year’s winners are Krystal Robertson, a 3rd year Business Administration student who worked at the Ministry of Transportation, North East Regional Office and Scott Williamson, a 2nd year Business Administration-Accounting student who worked at Nipissing University’s, Finance Department.
Krystal and Scott will be Canadore’s nominees for the 2008 Canadian Association of Cooperative Education (CAFCE) Co-op Student of the Year Award (CSOTYA) which will be announced in early 2009.
“Our Co-operative Education Program continues to expand our network with the public and private sectors and opens up opportunities for our students,” commented David Thompson, Co-op Advisor.
“We have great partners who continue to support our co-op initiative by hiring Canadore Co-op Business and Accounting students for their work term, as well as after they graduate,” added Dean of Business David Himmelman.
