Skills Program Filled to Capacity in Parry Sound
A new skills training program being offered at Canadore’s West Parry Sound Campus was filled to capacity with anxious students on Monday.
Fifteen students are enrolled in the Pre-Carpentry program where they will learn basic skills and receive safety certification in CPR, emergency first aid and general safety awareness training including fall arrest protection awareness.
“There was an identified need for a skilled workforce in the region by area employers. Canadore is committed to meeting the training needs of the communities we serve and helping to facilitate gainful employment for our students,” said George Burton, President of Canadore College.
Funding for this program was made available by Service Canada to individuals up to 30 years old, who were out of school, not receiving employment insurance and in need of assistance to overcome barriers to employment.
The program, which will be completed April 1, is a combination of five weeks training at the West Parry Sound Campus and three weeks of hands-on training in the community.
Teaching the program is Brandon Jordon, owner and operator of Jordon Construction. Dependant on future funding, the program will be delivered annually in Parry Sound.
Canadore continually strives to meet community and regional needs by providing relevant programming and training for a skilled workforce.
