Pathway to Prosperity Forum at Canadore
Canadore College had over 70 regional business and economic development leaders attend its employer consultation forum, Pathway to Prosperity, at the College Drive Campus on Friday, October 28, 2005.
M.P. Anthony Rota, M.P.P. Monique Smith and Mayor of North Bay, Victor Fedeli, joined David Lindsay, President of the Association of Colleges of Ontario and Canadore President Barbara Taylor in welcoming participants.
The forum gave panelists a chance to meet with government leaders to discuss the issues of skills training and the need to provide quality postsecondary education in Ontario – and in Canada.
Included in the panel discussion was Ken Allen, Venasse Construction; Charlie Toeppner, Cementation Canada; Charles Gagnon, Tembec; Ken Duquette, Ontario Northland and Rick Evans, City of North Bay Economic Development.
“This event is an opportunity for our business and community leaders to identify what workforce issues they face and to articulate what our educational institutions need to do to resolve our labour and skills shortage. Their message will be part of our Pathway to Prosperity Report submitted to the Prime Minister and the Premier as they review a national skills strategy” said Canadore College President, Barbara Taylor.
Pathway to Prosperity was launched as a contribution to the creation of a national skills strategy by Ontario’s 24 colleges on October 17, 2005.
