New Programs Now Accepting Applications

Two of Canadore’s new programs have been approved and are now accepting student applications.

The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities has approved Civil Engineering Technician and Mobile Application Development for the Fall 2011 semester.

Civil Engineering Technician

This two year program diploma will teach students the tools of the trade and provide the skills needed to be successful in this diverse profession. Students will learn computer-aided drafting and design (CADD) in both 2D and 3D, surveying and GPS, highway/road design and planning, and design and construction of infrastructure. There is a high demand for jobs in this field, graduates will find work in areas such as structural engineering, municipal engineering, construction design and supervision, highways and transportation engineering, water resources engineering, geotechnical engineering and environmental protection.

Mobile Application Development

This one year, post graduate program will train students in the exciting and cutting edge field of mobile application development. Students will learn development for RIM, Apple, and Android mobile devices including application development, web development, game development, 3D graphics and animation, and marketing and distribution. This field is exploding and jobs are in high demand. According to the web analytics firm Gartner Inc., it is estimated that more than four billion mobile “apps” were downloaded in 2010, and that number could be closer to 21 billion in just two years’ time. Graduates will find work as developers for advertising and marketing firms, media outlets, mobile communication companies and web development companies. This program offers flexible delivery - available in class, via the internet  and/or through distance education.

“We couldn’t be happier about these approvals. The College is now ready to begin accepting applications into these diverse career fields. These programs could potentially draw students to North Bay from across the province and around the world,” said Canadore President George Burton.

Two other programs are awaiting funding approval from the MTCU:

  • Financial Services Certificate
  • Rural Recreation Certificate

Canadore is dedicated to being proactive and responsive to changing market demands, student and employer needs and to creating relevant programming that will give our graduates highly employable skills.
