LTAB meeting the needs of employers
Muskoka, Nipissing, Parry Sound Local Training and Adjustment Board launched a special project Wednesday at Canadore College for the North Bay area that will explore what the future needs of the labour market.
“Our announcement today is announcing funding that we received from the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities to conduct a labour market initiative here in North Bay. The Labour Market Initiative has two components; the first component is a survey analysis – basically we will go out and talk to employers about what their future labour markets needs are in the next 5 to 10 years,” she explains.
“The second component involves some product development, so basically educating the public on what on what the employer will be in the future in order that they can make career choices at the local levels.”
Fiddler says the response has been overwhelming from all sectors and with that will help provide essential information to education providers when looking to adjust or redevelop curriculum and fill current gaps in the labour market.
“It’s been very public that the Health Care sector and mining sector are really hurting right now in terms of finding qualified people to staff their facilities,” she states.
“The whole point being that if they are currently offering that now we can promote them more to the public in the hope that they will participate in the course locally and that they will be employed, if they don’t exist we will be working with both institutions to help facilitate perhaps gaining a new program or two to make sure we are meeting the needs of the employer.”
