Hair Lost, an Acre Gained

Canadore Professor Shaves Head for Local Wetlands

Today, Canadore Professor Jeremy St. Onge shaved his head in the name of conservation.

The Laurier Woods Is Growing campaign kicked off on February 4 with the goal to raise $100,000 towards the purchase of 100 acres of provincially-significant wetland and add it to the Laurier Woods Conservation Area, which will result in doubling the size of the protected trail areas.

In response to the challenge, Environmental Technician – Protection and Compliance students made the goal of raising $1,000 to purchase one acre, and if completed St. Onge agreed he would shave his head.

With the help of a donation from Canadore’s Advancement and Alumni Services Office, the goal was met and St. Onge fulfilled his agreement today at 10 a.m. at Leo's Hairstyling and Unisex located at 2677 Trout Lake Rd., in front of room full of students and faculty. The hair will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society.
