Canadore and Near North District School Board Sign MOU
Canadore College and the Near North District School Board joined together on Friday, September 17, 2004 to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to ensure the strategic and thoughtful use of the educational resources that are available in the regions that are jointly served by the two institutions.
"We are very proud of the strong relationship that we have with the Near North District School Board," said Cindy Boston, Chair of the Canadore College Board of Governors.
"This MOU is about both of our institutions putting our communities first. By agreeing to look at ways to share facilities and resources, we are working towards maximizing our assets and eliminating duplication in the region, for the benefit of our students."
The goal of the MOU is to allow both institutions to plan for the joint use of facilities, equipment and other resources in the planning and delivery of programs and to look at ways to maximize these resources for the benefit of their students and communities.
Eunice Saari, Chair of the Near North District School Board stated "While our Board has a long-standing relationship with Canadore College, this MOU for the Joint Use of Facilities, reinforces our goal to strengthen and continue new value-added partnerships. Our Board's policies emphasize the need to develop appropriate partnerships to achieve the Board's ENDS, and to maximize efficiency in the use of resources."
"This represents a great opportunity for us to look at how we can maximize new and existing resources," said Canadore President Barbara Taylor. "We are particularly anxious to look at our skilled trades programming, as we recognize that our region faces a significant shortage in this area, and needs us to be proactive in making sure that these programs are accessible."
"The Near North District School Board has been working with Canadore College for several years," stated Director of Education, Colin Vickers. "Our presence at the new Aviation Campus is one example. As the College expands into the District of Parry Sound and looks to enhance their activity in West Nipissing and Mattawa, our Board is anxious to strengthen our partnership and broaden existing initiatives. This next step is intended to assist with our Student Success initiative that includes program Pathways pointed towards college programs including the technical trades."
