Canadore College President George Burton, on behalf of the interview panels, is pleased to announce the appointment of three Vice-Presidents to the College, effective August 2011.
Dr. Marguerite Donohue will join Canadore as Vice-President of Academic from Algonquin College, where she was the Dean of Academic Development. During her time at Algonquin, she also fulfilled responsibilities as the Dean of their Pembroke Campus and as Chair of the Applied Arts and Health Sciences Department. Donohue is also a registered nurse having worked with the Renfrew County and District Health Unit and Sunnybrook Medical Centre. She has earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education for Community College Leaders from the University of Toronto, a Master of Health Administration degree from the University of Ottawa and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Toronto. Her commitment to community is far-reaching having worked with organizations such as the Ottawa Crown Ward Championship Team, the Petawawa Ski Club, the Pembroke United Way, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Lung Association and the Pembroke Boys and Girls Association.
Mr. Richard Peters, will join Canadore as Vice-President of Finance and Corporate Services from Sault College of Applied Arts and Technology, where he was the Vice-President of Finance and Administration. He is a chartered accountant with extensive experience in corporate finance having worked as Manager of Operations and Finance at Essar Steel Algoma Inc., Analyst of Corporate Development at Tembec Inc., Manager of Rates and Regulatory Matters at ON Telecom Inc., Manager of Business Valuation and Litigation at KPMG LLP. Peters holds a Master of Accounting degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Waterloo. He has maintained close ties to community through committee work and volunteering with the Algoma Nurse Practitioner Led Clinic Board, the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Commission, the Sault Ste. Marie United Way, the Algoma University College and the North Bay and District Humane Society.
Mr. Shawn Chorney will assume the role as Vice-President of Enrolment Management, Student Services and Recruitment this month. Chorney joined the Canadore team in February 2009 as Director of Campus Life and moved into the role of Acting Vice-President of Student Services and Human Resources. Prior to his work with Canadore, he held the positions of Associate Regional Director – South Region and Manager of College Foundation at Northern College and Executive Director of the Porcupine United Way. Chorney holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a concentration in law and justice and a minor in native studies from Laurentian University and is completing his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix. His community and committee activities include work with the Mattawa-Bonfield Chamber of Commerce, the Canada Millennium Scholarship Fund, the Rotary Club of Timmins-Porcupine and the Kiwanis Club of Timmins.
“Canadore is extremely excited to welcome Dr. Donohue, Mr. Peters and Mr. Chorney to our team. They each have strong and relevant skill sets to bring to their individual portfolios that will also provide strength to the entire college,” said Burton. “We are very much looking forward to our future as a College of Choice.
