ACE Canadore Wins 2nd Place at National Business Competition
Canadore?s entrepreneurship club, ACE Canadore, was declared first runner-up in the Students In Free Entreprise (SIFE) Competition at the ACE (Advancing Canadian Entrepreneurship) National Exposition held in Toronto from May 10 to May 12, 2004. The Exposition brought together student entrepreneurship clubs from 47 colleges and universities across the country.
The Canadore Team consisted of four 2nd year Small Business students: Sara Moynan, Jennifer Netrefa, Tanya Bédard and Brent Bowman; and three 1st year Recreation and Leisure Services students: Sarah Broadhead, Benthany Penney and Amanda Doherty; Professor Bob Walpole is the team coach.
In the SIFE competition, Canadore competed against 19 university and 3 college teams and finished 2nd to Wilfrid Laurier University, last year?s competition winner and Canada?s representative at the SIFE World Cup in Mainz, Germany in September 2003.
During the summer of 2003 and over the recently concluded academic year, the ACE teams planned and executed their own original projects to teach people in their communities and around the world about business, entrepreneurship and economics. At the competition, the teams were given 29 minutes to showcase their projects to senior executives from Canada?s business elite.
According to Professor Walpole, ?From what I have been told, we lost by the smallest margin possible. I am indescribably proud of what the students have accomplished this year. Their work during the year and their presentation at the competition were at the world class level. Every teacher should be so lucky to have students like Sara, Brent, Bethany, Tanya, Amanda, Jenn, and Sarah. ?
Prior to competing at the National Exposition ACE Canadore participated in the ACE Regional Exposition, which was held in Toronto from February 27 to 29. At the Regional Exposition, ACE Canadore was made the recipient of the Best Regional Startup (Ontario) Award, beating out six other Ontario teams for the honour.
