The project will create an environment of collaboration with health caregiver students and our clinical agency, consistent with the vision, mission, and objectives.

Vision:

Create an environment of collaboration in health care within rural northern locations.

Mission:

Develop interprofessional educational programs for faculty and students. Ensure students from all disciplines are exposed to and acquire competencies of collaborative practice necessary for patient-centered care.

Objectives:
  1. Incorporate activities that will assist in developing faculty understanding of IPE and IPC.
  2. Organize and deliver faculty development initiatives to foster positive attitudinal changes toward increased collaborative patient-centred care.
  3. Deliver evaluated and revised IPE activities that were developed for the Learn Together Practice Together Project, which include simulations, case discussions, clinical placement and student tutorials.
  4. Continue to foster interprofessional relationships and identify strategies to increase the capacity for IPC.

Activities will be integrated into existing curriculums that include opportunities for credit within courses. Faculty will be involved in developing opportunities within their existing courses to include collaborative practice initiatives.

Outcomes:

Faculty will:

  1. Have increased awareness of the importance of IPE.
  2. Have additional new skills to facilitate interprofessional learning.

Students will:

  1. Appreciate the relationship between one’s own professional role and roles of other health professionals.
  2. Participate collaboratively as a team member to support patient/client outcomes.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge and skills linked to interprofessional practice.
  4. Appreciate value of and use of team approaches for improved patient client outcomes.
