Five Week Student Tutorial Session
This activity allows for an extended reach beyond existing students and disciplines to include students on clinical placements in North Bay from other provincial universities. The continuation of these sessions will allow students to contribute to an interprofessional patient plan of care, learn team facilitation skills, group dynamic concepts and an increased understanding of roles and responsibilities of various health disciplines. This experience is provided in the Fall semester.
These tutorial sessions are small group discussions that are provided to a varied group of health science students (6-10) that are in placement in the North Bay area. The sessions are two hours per week over a five week period.
Collaborative Skills Workshops
These workshops provide safe opportunities for students to work together in resolving a variety of patient situations. As the students learn to work together to enhance patient outcomes, they will learn about each other’s scope of practice and how to work together more effectively. All students will be expected to learn how to work in interprofessional environments and create positive work environments to provide patient-centered care. This experience occurs throughout the Fall semester.
The workshops provide second year students from the practical nursing, respiratory therapy and BScN programs the opportunity to participate in three different patient case studies. Each case runs for three consecutive weeks allowing all of the students from each program the opportunity to participate.
Large Case Based Discussion
A large case base discussion involving all second year practical nursing, BScN and respiratory therapy students. Students are divided into interprofessional groups and presented with a patient case.
The session is two hours in duration. During this time students are expected to create an interprofessional care plan based on the patient case. The emphasis is on interprofessional patient centred care.
This activity is held in both the Fall and Winter semesters.
