Learning Disabilities Enhanced Services Program
(LD ESP)
At Canadore College we have a unique support program for students who have learning disabilities (LD):
Full-time counsellors/learning strategists
Group meetings with other students in the LD ESP program
Personal, academic and career counselling
Access to and training on assistive technology
Tutoring
How Can I Be Considered for the Program?
First of all, please make an appointment to see a counsellor/learning strategiest. At the Education Centre visit us in Room C262 or phone (705) 474-7600, ext. 5205 to make an appointment for an intake interview and preliminary screening. We can provide you with a transitional planner to help you plan what questions you would like to ask and what documentation you need to bring. Please bring along any past documentation you have such as IEP’s, IPRC’s and past assessments.
To be qualified to enter LD ESP, you must have a specific learning disability diagnosed through a psycho educational assessment.
Admissions
Students are encouraged to confidentially self-identify their disability to the AccessAbility Services office by making an appointment to see a counsellor. A transitional planner is available to help smooth a student's transition to college.
Assessments
Students accepted to Canadore's LD ESP program have an up-to-date psycho educational assessment with a diagnosis of a specific LD. Any student needing more comprehensive or updated testing is provided with a chance for timely reassessment. This ensures that appropriate accommodations can be made.
Advising
Every student at Canadore, including Special Needs students, is assigned an academic advisor, a faculty member in the student's program. They can answer questions regarding academic regulations, programs and discipline requirements, and work with the counsellors and AccessAbility Services staff to understand each student's unique needs.
