Remember - If you are a faculty member or support staff person who would like to help, please refer to the procedure below:
Refer the student to make an appointment with a counsellor through the AccessAbility Office in room C262 (extension 5205). A decision will then be made as to whether the student will be referred either to our regular AccessAbility services for students who have learning disabilities, or to the Learning Disabilities Enhanced Services Program (LD ESP).
If the student is being considered for LD ESP, the student will be asked to bring in past documentation such as past psychoeducational assessments, IEP's, and any other documentation they have, and they will be asked to complete a learning disabilities screening questionnaire.
If the student does not have an up-to-date psychoeducational assessment, we may be able to arrange for the student to be assessed.
If the student is diagnosed with a specific learning disability and the psychoeducational assessment shows that the student meets all the criteria for entrance into the LD ESP, the student may work with our LD ESP Leader/Counsellor, LD ESP Learning Strategist/Counsellor, and LD ESP Assistive Technologist.
Quick Tip!
MYTH - Persons with LD don't deserve promotions.
FACT - Persons with learning disabilities competing with other candidates must overcome discrimination in the promotion process. Often their skills are overlooked and they are considered inadequate rather than as talented, capable persons who may need accommodations to compensate for specific weaknesses.
