Learn about fifty of the best and hardiest herbaceous perennials. Designing perennial beds and borders as well as annual garden design will round out this course for beginners and more advanced gardeners alike. In addition, the importance of cultivars in perennial design will be stressed.

This course familiarizes students with a selection of the most widely-used annual plants for Northern gardens and container gardening. This course will also familiarize students with the basic concepts involved in the preparation of a variety of containers, from hanging baskets to planters. Proper planting methods and the maintenance of various containers will be addressed.

Students learn 40 of the best and most rewarding spring and summer flowering bulbs. Learn to extend the bloom season in your garden with the use of bulbs. Both hardy and exotic bulbs will be covered, including all cultural needs and design use.

This course familiarizes students with the basic concepts involved in three separate but inter-related topics: composting, soil, and maintaining garden health. Students learn different methods of composting and the benefits for the soil and plants when compost is used.
