These courses will provide adults with developmental disabilities the opportunity to experience college life. Students will acquire skills they can use at college, work, home, and in the community. A grade of 60 (C) or higher is required to take some of the Community Integration courses.

Admission Requirements:

  • Must have a developmental disability.
  • Must be 19 years or older on the first day of classes.

This course provides the knowledge and skills required to manage illness and/or injury in emergency situations. Recognition and management of adults in cardiac or respiratory distress is emphasized.

First Aid II

The Standard First Aid and CPR Level C training is the highest level a non-health care professional can take. The students will cover secondary survey, artificial respiration, cardiovascular emergencies, two-rescuers CPR on adult and child, infant resuscitation, bone and joint injuries, head and spinal injuries, chest injuries, rescue carries, eye injuries, poison, bites and stings, and heat and cold injuries. Prerequisite: CEA602 First Aid Skills I.

The course will focus on strategies for handling conflict with others, developing self-confidence, leadership, and self-advocacy skills, in the context of employment, community participation, and disability rights.

Human Relations II

Students will learn self-management skills and how to apply and plan time management strategies for successful goal setting and achievement. The course will cover topics of self-confidence and determination and will identify plans for success in the community. This course will assist students to develop critical thinking and good decision making skills as well as strategies for conflict resolution in their personal and community life. Prerequisite: CEA601 Human Relations I with a grade of 60(C) or higher.
