Motorcycle Rider Training

Fun and Freedom with safety!

Experience the fun and freedom of motorcycling by taking the Canada Safety Council “Gearing Up” course – Canada’s only national motorcycle training program.

Admission Requirements:

  • be 16 years of age or older;
  • possess a valid motorcycle learner's permit from the Ministry of Transportation, Driver Licensing section;
  • wear a heavy, long-sleeved jacket, heavyweight pants, leather gloves and heavy leather footwear; and
  • wear a DOT-approved helmet.

Canadore College provides an excellent off-road paved area for training and, with the assistance of local dealers, supplies the motorcycles for your training.

Motorcycle Rider Training M1

Developed by the Canada Safety Council and taught by our skilled certified professional instructors, this course provides you with the basic skills to ride safely as you gain road experience. Participants who successfully complete the program receive a class "M2" licence. You will practice balancing, cold starting, moving off, braking and stopping, gear changing, shoulder checking, signalling, slow-riding and pattern riding, traffic behaviour and decision making, collision avoidance and emergency braking.

Motorcycle Rider Training M2

This weekend course is designed for the experienced street motorcyclist who wants to make the most of his/her riding skills. The practical training emphasizes road management skills, intersections, left and right turns, lane changes, roadside stops and expressways. Upon completion of the practical training, students will be tested for the “M” license. Candidates are required to supply their own motorcycle, which must be street legal and a minimum of 250 cc in displacement.
